A week in the life of a freelance marketer

One of the most popular blogs I have written over the last few years was a week in the life of a Senior Marketing Manager, so I thought I would recreate this now that I am a freelance marketing consultant.

In the summer I made the decision to make Marketing Moments my full-time gig and it has definitely been a bit of a whirlwind three months. But so far, I am loving the variety of work projects that I have. I have a handful of clients all with different needs and projects.

Sunday afternoon

I logged on for a few hours on Sunday afternoon, as I had been away the previous week and this mainly involved doing some admin tasks and planning for the week ahead. I also did my own monthly reporting to check I am happy with how my website, Google PPC and social media is working for me.

Monday

Monday was a busy start to the week with quite a few check-in meetings with different clients. I caught up with the Pig & Whistle Restaurant on their Christmas campaign that launched on 1 November. We started working on this back in June, when Justin told me he wanted to do an AI animation for Christmas and I immediately launched into a story with a flying Pig delivering their gift cards. One of the things that I love about working with Pig & Whistle Restaurant is that they embrace my slightly mad ideas and I am super happy with what we ended up with.

I also caught up with a new client who I will be helping with maintaining their caravan booking website with the next couple of months focused on refreshing website content and setting up the booking engine. I absolutely love that I get to work with small businesses and help them to find affordable solutions to the challenges they are facing. I am sure over the next few months I will be able to share more information on how I am supporting them.

I also had a check-in meeting with a client that I am helping to develop a cast of personas based on their current customers. This is a fun project, where I have a real depth of information available.

In the afternoon, I did some work for Pallet Studio who I support on a retainer basis. This month I was doing some admin tasks on their online shop, some SEO tasks and optimising their Google PPC account. They have recently done a case study with me so you can read more on our client testimonials page.

Tuesday, Wednesday morning and Thursday

This time was spent on the customer persona project I mentioned earlier. There isn’t much I can say about this, but I do love geeking out with some data, so this was a fun activity to do.

Wednesday afternoon

I started the afternoon by meeting with a new potential client who is looking for help with setting up their website on a simple CMS that moving forward they could manage themselves. This was a scoping call to understand their needs before putting together a proposal.

I then jumped on a call with a client to help them resolve some issues or challenges they were having with social media and answered some other questions from different clients. I then did a couple of hours work on my MBA final project before calling it a day.

Friday

Today, has been all about the website project I was onboarding on Monday. I started the day researching different booking site add-ons that are compatible with their CMS and making a recommendation on the booking engine. I did some quick win SEO tasks to hold them over while I am refreshing and creating new web pages. I rewrote and created a refreshed home page and one other web page. Then I started configuring the booking engine and figuring out how it works.

And then well I wrote this blog and did some content marketing for my own channels.
